Rural Education Research

One of the goals of VTREA is to foster and share high quality rural education research. Our aim is to provide a repository of research that will be helpful to educators, researchers, community leaders, and legislators to inform their work related to rural education.

In the meantime, we encourage you to read these two resources provided by the National Rural Education Association:

  • The Rural Educator, the official peer-reviewed journal journal of the NREA which publishes four times per year.

  • Why Rural Matters, a report, also published by NREA every few years, is a report that examines the contexts and conditions of rural education across all 50 states. This report continues the critical mission of drawing attention to the urgent need for policymakers, educators, and communities to address rural education challenges and opportunities within their own states.
