Mission & Goals

VT REA is a member-driven organization that aims to build sustainable rural communities in Vermont through a keen focus on place, students, teachers, research, policy, and community. Through uplifting the social capital of rural schools and their communities, VT REA serves as a community of practice, research, and policy for rural educators and communities. We aim to grow strong rural teacher leaders, give them voice, and provide them with supportive networks and resources, all in service of promoting quality educational opportunities and experiences for all children from rural communities in Vermont.

Goals

1) To pursue the quality of excellence in education; to give identity, voice, and exposure to the particular quality of rural schools; to enhance the quality of life unique in the rural community.

2) To inform the state legislature, state board of education, and other such groups or agencies of the concerns, needs, and research of the Vermont Rural Education Association so as to effectively guide and positively impact legislation, rules, regulations, and policymakers at the state and national levels.

3) To formulate and promote plans, proposals, subsidies, in-service, and curricula which will be in the best interests of the membership.

4) To inform and solicit the support of the membership in promoting the goals of the organization.

5) To develop partnerships with other professional organizations, state leaders, community leaders, businesses, school administrators, and board members.

6) To support, enhance, and grow the quality of education in rural school communities.

7) To support educators and students of Vermont rural schools communities by providing scholarships, awards, achievement recognition, and other benefits.
